- To improve communication between Section, SAC Chair and Counselors of various SBs and providing a platform for discussion of ideas to improve student activities in Section and Student Branches.
- To help Section, SAC Chairs and Counselors to update themselves and serve student branches effectively and enhance coordination between them.

Event Report
The inaugural Student Branch Counselor/Technical Advisor Meet event was organized by the IEEE Malaysia Section on 20th August 2016 and is partially funded by IEEE Region 10. A total of 30 participants from the IEEE Malaysia Section as well as counsellors/technical advisors/representatives from 11 IEEE student branches attended the half-day event. The event began with the opening speech and the IEEE Malaysia Vision by Dr Zuhaina who is the current IEEE Malaysia Section Chair. This was followed by an overview of the IEEE Malaysia Section Student Branches by Dr P Susthitha Menon, the Student Activity Chair who emphasized on the number of IEEE student members in each SB and the SB activities that have been conducted since January 2016. A recorded video talk from Section Student Representative, Ashen Gomes who was undergoing internship overseas was aired next where the undergraduate SSR highlighted about the efforts taken by the Section to improve the student membership in various SBs. The postgraduate SSR, Ali Najah who is also a committee member of the R10 SAC highlighted about the various SBs which have not updated their committee details and annual activity in IEEE vtools. He also briefed the counsellors on how to use IEEE vtools to update SB activities.
UPM SB Chair who is also a committee member of the R10 SAC, Fatimah briefed the audience about the various R10 Student Branch Awards including their criteria and requirements. Next, Dr Rozita who is the Section Excom in charge of Educational Activities gave a very enlightening talk on the various Funding Opportunities available for SBs. After a short coffee break, R10 Student Branch Coordinator; Hussain Mahdi gave a talk on the IEEE SB Competitions such as IEEEXtreme, IEEEmadC and SS12. Two SB Counselors namely Dr Rosmiwati from USM SB and Dr Garenth from Curtin SB who were winners of R10 SB Awards shared the best practices at their SBs which aided them in winning the R10 Awards. Women in Engineering representative, Ms Shaveethya from Monash Student Branch briefed the audience about the WIE Student Network and efforts taken to form WIE affinity groups at SBs. The final agenda for the event was a forum on SB Operational Issues and Solutions which included Dr Zuhaina, Dr Mohd Faizal and Dr Norliza as the panels and Dr Susi as the moderator. Various SB issues such as low membership, ineffective counselors and change in counselors, IEEE student membership retention and SB funding from Section were discussed in an interactive manner by all the participants. The event ended with a group photo, handing out of certificates to participants as well as the organizing committee and lunch/networking among the various SB representatives.
