IEEE INNOVATION NATION MALAYSIA 2020 Techno-preneurship Bootcamp (Malaysia & Sarawak Track)

IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch (IEEE CMSB) has successfully organized the first IEEE INNOVATION NATION MALAYSIA (INM 2020) – a Techno-preneurship bootcamp in collaboration with IEEE Innovation Nation, IEEE Malaysia Section, Founders, MAGIC, Future Lab and SMA-TEGAS Innovation Hub. This event is organized on the period of 26th July – 15 Dec 2020. This bootcamp is aimed to provide an advanced up-skilling platform for techno-entrepreneurs to learn and equip themselves with advanced technical knowledge and business minded pitching skills. The objective of this event organization is to motivate more Malaysia entrepreneurs to be driven by technology invention and creation to
tackle local issues with technological solution as well as to prepare them with adequate knowledge on startup ecosystem. By the end of the bootcamp, participants shall develop a prototyping to demonstrate their conceptual idea to solve local issues and any real-life issues regionally.

As for the preliminary stage, there are 28 proposals submission around
Malaysia. Among these 28 proposal submissions, 8 team are shortlisted for INM Sarawak Track and 17 teams are shortlisted for INM Malaysia track. There are 13 virtual workshops being provided to the participants to learn and upgrade their business mindset. Two mentoring sessions are arranged for all teams in the beginning and the end of the INM period before the final pitching. The final pitching for Sarawak track and Malaysia track are organized on 11 December and 15 December 2020 respectively. The pitching session is go on live in Facebook and we hope to inspire more enterpreneurs among the community in the coming future.

Project Name : Phytotizer, Herbal based sanitizer uniquely from formulation of native ethnic in Sabah

COVID-19 is currently sweeping the globe with increasing mortality rates and in its wake, what is most evident is the worldwide shortfall in supply of prevention agents, hand sanitizers and face masks. Therefore, the demand for hand sanitizers have gone off the roof. Alcohol-based sanitizers are said to be the most effective for killing of COVID-19, however several fatality casesarise due to incorrect usage. Besides, the increasing of methanol-based sanitizers globally is alsoa recent trend. These cases are strong evidence that support the need to formulate alcohol-free sanitizers as a substitute. In this regard, the development of alcohol-free sanitizers from natural products are the path chosen for this study. Three notable ethnomedical plants used by indigenous ethnic groups in East Malaysia as a prescription for antiviral agents, are selected for this venture and named as Phytotizer. Our target market is indeed the whole population globally as the pandemic did not give an exception to anyone. However, we are targeting particularly people who are having respiratory problems, skin sensitive and halal purposes. Moreover, significant adoption of hand sanitizer in the hospitality industry and those who reside in our target market groups will stoke growth opportunities of Phytotizer.

Project Name : UAS Traffic Management System

The usage of aerial drones as a hobby and profession has been increasing lately in the past few years. As such, drone owners have to be responsible with their drones and abide by the rules and safety of flying a drone. This includes knowing which locations are suitable to fly, and which locations are prohibited. However, drones are still a growing industry, and not many countries have proper drone regulations that are clear, such as Malaysia. Drone owners may not know which locations are unsafe and prohibited for drones to fly in their own cities or country.
There are also no proper ways to monitor and track down drone owners that are misusing their drones. This poses a huge risk to civilian lives, as accidents involving drones are always dangerous, and may even be fatal. Drone crashes involving other aircrafts may also occur, which may cause a lot of monetary damage. Therefore, we came up with this application that can display safe zones that drones are allowed to fly in, monitor drones and their flight path, as well as keep track of registered drone owners. There is no existing way of knowing whether there are any drones flying in the same area, so our system can help the drone flyers by telling and notifying them if there are any d rones flying in the same area or not. We also show the drone flyers if there are any commercial aeroplanes flying nearby. But the most important aspect of our system is it allows our government to set “red zones” onto Malaysia’s aerospace so drones won’t be able to within or into those zones. Our government can also check on who is flying the drone, the coordinates of the drone, the flight path of the drone and also the speed of the drones in real time through our system.

Project Name : Smart Shelf-life Management & Demand
Forecasting

Industry data have shown that huge amounts of fresh food are being wasted every year by the grocery retail industry. One of the factors behind this is the lack of proper shelf-life management systems. This leads to grocery retail stores as well as consumers simply relying on inaccurately estimated expiry date labels put onto fresh products. Our solution is to utilize a smart shelf-life management system for fresh products using IoT sensors during the supply chain process that will pick up on changes in humidity, temperature and ethylene gas emission, all of which contributes to change in freshness of products. Based on the readings, our algorithm will generate a freshness quality index which will constantly be updated on digital price tags in grocery stores. This way, the products set to expire soon can have their prices lowered to be sold out to customers instead of being thrown away. Our solution is in line with United Nations Sustainable Goal 12 to help combat the wastage of fresh foods and helping our clients avoid potential revenue losses.

This smart food is so convenient as you can enjoy your personalized healthy meal anytime and anyway. The Big data used can analyses your dietary need. And it is of performance driven to increase your daily productivity. For Millionaire Meal smart food, we proposed to build a mobile APP that be used for nutrition analysis & categorization for nutritious retort food production. For the user site, they are able to know their recommended nutritious ready -to-eat meal (dietary need) once they have registered as APP users with basic information to fill in.
