Title: Challenges in mmWave Antenna System for Mobile Handsets


The talk aims to provide an overall picture of the mmwave (or FR2) antenna system in mobile handsets from standardization and research aspects, to provide insight into the research topics, and, more importantly, to illustrate “why” those topics matter. In the presentation, we will first review the 3GPP performance requirement for FR2 devices and discuss the implication for antenna designs. Then we will focus on the challenges of antenna system design for mobile handsets in FR2 and review the state of art research works. The user body effect and exposure will be followed up, and we will also conclude the presentation with a brief summary of the open issues and future works.



Kun Zhao received the B.S. degree in Communication Engineering from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Beijing, China in 2010, M.S. and Ph.D. degree from Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, in 2012. and 2017, respectively.

Currently, he is a researcher of antenna technology and a 3GPP RAN4 delegate in Sony R&D Center Lund, Sweden. He has been an industrial postdoc in Antennas, Propagation and Radio Networking, Aalborg University, Denmark. He has also been a visiting researcher at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University, Sweden. His current research interests include mm-wave antenna and propagation, MIMO antenna systems, user body interactions and body centric wireless communications.
