Chair – Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi
Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi (M’00, SM’10) received the B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College, London, UK in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Computer Science from University of Southampton, Southampton, UK in 2004. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University. His main research interests are in the area of signal and image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision and medical imaging. He was appointed as the Director for the Center for Quality Assurance and Academic Excellence (CQAAE) at MMU in August 2012. From May 2013 to June 2014, he was attached to the Clinical Image Analysis Lab at the Ohio State University, USA where he works on digital histopathology, especially on follicular lymphoma and glioblastoma diseases analysis. He has published more than 70 journal and conference articles to date. Mohammad Faizal is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which he first joined in 2000. He was the chair for the Signal Processing Chapter from 2008 to 2013. Under his stewardship, the chapter started organizing their flagship events such as the IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications (ICSIPA) and the IPIARTI and SASSP workshops, as well as aggressively promoting the chapters through various activities such as workshops, seminars, DLP talks, competitions, social activities and membership drives throughout the country. Subsequently the chapter was awarded the first ever recipient of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter of the Year Award in 2011. He was the general co-chair of ICSIPA2009 and the general chair for ICSIPA 2011. He is currently serving as the Chair of the IEEE Malaysia Section as well as the past chair of the Signal Processing chapter.
Vice Chair – Fawnizu Azmadi Hussin
Fawnizu Azmadi Hussin (M’02, SM’14) is the Director of Strategic Alliance Office at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), where he advises the Vice Chancellor on matters related to collaborations with partners from the industry, university or government. He was the Program Manager of Master by coursework program at UTP (2009-2013) and the Deputy Head of Electrical & Electronic Engineering department at UTP (2013-2014). He spent almost one year as a Visiting Professor at Intel Microelectronics (Malaysia)’s SOC DFx department in 2012-13.
He obtained the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Computer Design) from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, U.S.A. in 1999 and subsequently his M.Eng.Sc. in Systems and Control from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2001. Dr Fawnizu obtained his PhD in 2008 at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Japan under the scholarship from the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho). His PhD thesis was on core-based testing of system-on-chips (SOC) and network-on-chips (NOC), which won an award at the ASP-DAC 2008 Student Forum. Dr Fawnizu’s research interests are in VLSI design and test especially in core-based testing, SOC and NOC. Dr Fawnizu currently works on test and debug of ICs, including DFT, BIST and test scheduling. He also works on embedded systems applications targeting mostly biomedical applications. He has filed five patent applications and two copyrights and published more than 100 papers. His most recent journal paper in IEEE Sensors was awarded The Most Downloaded Paper from the IEEE Sensors Council.
He is actively involved with the IEEE Malaysia Section. He was the 2013 & 2014 Chair of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Malaysia Chapter and currently an excomm member of IEEE Malaysia Section. During his term as CAS chair, Fawnizu inaugurated the Hi-Tea event (2013) as a platform for members to network and meet other CAS Malaysia members. He also introduced three categories of awards to recognize members from Bachelor, Masters and PhD categories for their outstanding work in the field of circuits & systems in Malaysia.
Past Chair – Zuhaina Zakaria
Zuhaina Zakaria (M’99, SM’13) received Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1989, Masters Degree from Napier University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 1997 and PhD in Power System from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK in 2005. She has been working in University Technology MARA (UiTM) for more than 20 years and currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Her main research interests are in the areas of power quality, load profiling and power system analysis and operation.
Dr Zuhaina is also a senior member of IEEE and the current chair for IEEE Malaysia Section. She has joined IEEE since 1999 and has served as an office-bearer in IEEE Malaysia Section as follows:
• Exco-Member (Student Activities)- 2000/2001, 2005/2006, 2007/2008
• Treasurer, 2008-2009
• Secretary, 2010, 2012-2013
• Student Counselor, IEEE UiTM Student Branch, 2005-2007
In the technical society, she is also one of the active volunteer in IEEE Power and Engineering (PES) Malaysia Chapter. She was appointed as committee member, treasurer from 2005-2007, Vice Chair from 2013-2014 and finally the current chair for PES Malaysia. Dr. Zuhaina has also been appointed as the Chapter Representative for R10 PES which requires her to monitor the running of seven PES chapters in the south East Asia.
In addition, Dr. Zuhaina was the founder for IEEE Malaysia Section-Women in Engineering Affinity Group which was formed in July 2007. She actively participated in organizing major IEEE conferences in Malaysia since 2006 which includes Student Conference on Research and Development 2006, International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED) from 2009 until present, Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) Asia 2014, TENSYMP 2014 and many more.
Dr. Zuhaina is an experienced and committed member of IEEE Malaysia Section and received recognition of IEEE Malaysia Section Outstanding Volunteer Award for 2010.
Secretary – Haidawati Mohamad Nasir
Dr Haidawati Mohamad Nasir is a senior lecturer at the Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Institute of Information Technology. She obtained her PhD degree from the department of Electrical and Electronic, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 2012. Her research interest is in the signal and image processing with application to super-resolution image reconstruction, image enhancement and computer vision
Treasurer – Zuriati Janin
Zuriati Janin received her B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia in 1996 and MSc. in Remote Sensing & GIS from the Universiti Putra, Malaysia (UPM) in 2001. In 2007, she began her study towards a Ph.D in Instrumentation and Control System at the Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia. She has served as a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara for 20 years and currently she is a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM, Shah Alam.
She has been involved with IEEE since 2012 and been mainly working with IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Chapter (IM09), Malaysia Section since 2013. The IEEE IMS Malaysia Chapter (IM09) acknowledged her role as the founding Treasurer in initiating and promoting ICSIMA as a series of annual chapter’s flagship conferences since its inception in 2013. She also had more than 10 years experiences in organizing the International Conferences, Workshops and Seminars such as ConSPAC (2004: Registration Chair), CSPA (2005 – 2011: Finance Chair), RTDSP (2006: Registration Chair), ICSIMA (2013 – 2015: Finance Chair). She had actively involved in IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Chapter, Malaysia Section as Executive Committee (2013), Treasurer (2014 – 2015) and Vice Chair (2016 – 2017). She has been appointed as Treasurer for ICSIMA 2013 (#31932), ICSIMA 2014 (#34582), ICSIMA 2015 (#36602) and ICSIMA 2017 (#41231). Currently, she is an IEEE Senior Member (SMIEEE), IMS Member, IEM Companion Member (CIEM), ISA Member and SEEM Member.
EXCOM
Noor Ain Kamsani
Noor Ain Kamsani received a B.S. degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (2006) and the Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering from the University of Glasgow (2011). Prior to her Ph.D, she was a design engineer at Intel Malaysia where her main responsibilities include designing and validating DFT features in chipsets. Currently she is a Senior Lecturer of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Affiliate Member of Academy of Science Malaysia – Young Scientist Network (ASM-YSN) and a Senior Member of IEEE society. She is actively serving IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Malaysia Chapter as an Honorary Secretary (2013 until 2016), IEEE Malaysia Section as Chair of Student Activities (2017) and IEEE Student Branch UPM as a Counselor (2013 until present). Under her counsel, the IEEE Student Branch of UPM has won the IEEE R10 Exemplary Student Branch Award in year 2016, 3rd prize for IEEE Malaysia Section Student Branch Award in year 2013 and year 2014 consecutively. She is also the founder of IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group UPM in year 2016. She also volunteered as a proctor in IEEEXtreme 8.0 Programming Competition and IEEEXtreme 9.0 Programming Competition. She was granted CASS Outreach fund twice, in year 2014 to run a Summer School Program on IC Design & Test and year 2015 to run School Program with secondary school students. Apart from that, she also served as Secretary in the IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems (ICCAS 2013), as Publicity Chair in 2015 IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems (ICSyS 2015) and as Publication Chair in 2017 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Postgraduate Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PrimeAsia2017). She was also appointed by CASS Malaysia Chapter as the Secretary in 2015 IEEE CASS Outreach Initiative on Women in Circuits and Systems (WiCAS2015). Under the Networking CASS Chapters in Asia-Pacific Countries Program, she participated in delegation to visit IEEE CASS Chapter in Indonesia (2013), South Korea (2014) and Shikoku, Japan (2015). Her latest achievements in IEEE were receiving the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation Travel Award to attend IEEE Women In Engineering International Leadership Conference in San Jose, California in May 2016 and IEEE Outstanding Student Branch Counselor Award 2016.
Lee Yoot Khuan
Dr. LEE Yoot Khuan received her BSc (First Hons) in Aeronautical Eng from Bristol University in 1983, MSc in Control Eng from Bradford University in 1990 and PhD in EE Eng (Biomedical) from Nottingham University, UK in 2007. She is an Associate Prof at the Faculty of EE Eng, UiTM. She has authored more than 170 technical publications in conferences and journals. She has experience as Editor-in-Chief and Board of Editors. She serves as a reviewer for IEEE FIE, EMBEC, Elsevier Editorial, ScholarOne, Wiley Periodicals and referee for IEEE EMBS, IEEE EMBS NER, IEEE EMBS MNM, IEEE EMBS BHI. She is a Distinguished Faculty of the IEEE EMBS Summer School on Emerging Technologies and Applications in Telemedicine in 2012. She is an Invited Speaker for the Sustainable Healthcare Delivery: Telehealth Systems: from Neonatal to Application for Elderly Session, at the 34th Annual International Conference of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC2012). She has also been appointed as Chair, Co-Chair, Mentor, Publication Chair, Publicity Chair, Technical Program Chair and Advisory Committee of international conferences related to Biomedical Engineering. She is a Keynote at the International Conference on Current Research and Applications in Electrical Sciences (ICCRAES 2016). She is contracted as International Expert, Research Grant Proposal Evaluation, National Science Center, Poland. She is with the National Medical Research Registry of Malaysia as a Registered Research Investigator. One of her research products, An Efficient Web-based Graphical Viewing Tool for Telemedicine Application won Medals from 5 different categories (Medical, TeleCommunication, Computer Software, Engineering & Science) at INPEX, USA. Another of her research product, A Salivary based Human Stress Bio-sensing Wearable Device, won a Medal at IENA, Germany. A few of her papers also garnered Awards of Excellence.
Her Research Experience includes analysis, compression and remote display of biomedical signals with infrequent short duration event; Classifying neonatal cry to determine the physiologic status of baby (asphyxia and hypothyroid); Neurofeedback for dyslexia children; Automation of an amperometric flow injection analysis system for measuring human stress; Development of polysilicon based micro-cantilever biosensor for human stress measurement; Development of ChemFET biosensor for histamine; Salivary based disease detection from Raman spectra. Her Research Interests includes biomedical signal processing, biomedical event detection, neurofeedback, physiologic measurement and artificial intelligence, in particular their application to improving the quality of life of mankind, of age less than 8 and more than 80, inspired by The Last Lecture by Prof Randy Pausch.
She is a Senior Member of IEEE and EMBS as well as a member of BEM and IET. She has been the Executive Committee of IEEE Malaysia Section and IEEE WIE. She has also served as the Executive Committee, Chair and Past Chair of IEEE EMBS, Malaysia Chapter. Under her leadership, the Chapter has won the 2012 IEEE EMBS Outstanding Chapter Award from 134 chapters worldwide and the 2012 Best Chapter Award (1st Runner Up) from IEEE Malaysia Section. She has also won the 2012 Best Volunteer Award from IEEE Malaysia Section, 2013 IEEE Asia Pacific Region (R10) Educational Activities Award for Informal Education and 2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Region (R10) Outstanding Individual Award for Humanitarian Technology Activities. She was an Assessment Committee member of IEEE SIGHT in 2016. She has also served as member of IEEE R10 EA Committee (2014, 2016) and R10 WIE Committee (2015). For Students, she is appointed Mentor to the 2014 IEEE EMBS International Student Conference in Malaysia by IEEE EMBS (HQ). For Humanity work, she has projects with IEEE SIGHT and IEEE EPIC.
Rosmiwati Mohd Mokhtar
Rosmiwati Mohd-Mokhtar received her B.Eng. degree with honours and the M.Sc. in electrical and electronic engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1999 and 2002, respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Australia in 2008. She joined the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia in October 2008 and now she is the associate professor and a program chairman for Mechatronic Engineering Program, USM. Her research interests include system identification, advanced control system design, process modelling and optimization, mechatronics, robotics and underwater system applications.
Rosmiwati is a member to IEEE since 2003 and received her IEEE Senior Member in 2014. She is also a member to IEEE Control System Society (CSS) and IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES). She was an excom for IEEE CSS Malaysia Chapter in 2013, 2014 and 2016. She is a secretary for IEEE OES Malaysia Chapter since 2015 till current. She was also a counsellor to IEEE Universiti Sains Malaysia Student Branch from 2013 to 2016. Under her counsel, the USM student branch has won many awards and prizes such as Best Student Branch Award (Small Category) – 2013, Second Place Student Branch Award (2014), Outstanding Branch Counselor Award (2014), Outstanding Student Branch Award (2015), Silver Darrel Chong Award (2015), First Place R10 SB Website Competition & Third Place IEEE Worldwide SB Website Competition (2015), Second Place Student Branch Award (2016), Gold Darrel Chong Award (2016) and First Place Infographics Competition (2016). With her supervision, the USM Student Branch also successfully obtained R10 Educational Activity Fund (2013-2016), IEEE EPICS Fund (2015-2016) and IEEE WIE Fund (2016). In 2017 she has been nominated as excom to IEEE Malaysia Section.
Nordin Ramli
Nordin Ramli (M’04, SM’12) received B.Eng degree in electrical engineering from Keio University, Japan in 1999. He received the M.Eng and Ph.D degrees, both in electronic engineering from The University of Electro-Communications, Japan in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Currently, he is a Senior Staff Researcher at Wireless Innovation Department, MIMOS Berhad, Malaysia. His current research and development (R&D) interests are in the area of cognitive radio, TV white space, space-time processing, equalization, adaptive array system and wireless mesh networking, internet of things, and big data analytics.
Based on his work, he published over 80 journal and conference papers, and filed more than 30 patents. Currently, Dr Nordin Ramli serves as the Associate Editor for the IEICE Communication Express (CoMEX), Japan from June 2014 until now. Previously, we was the Chairman of the IEEE Malaysia Communication Society & Vehicular Tehnology Society Joint Chapter (ComSoc/VTS) from 2013-2014.
