Alhamdulillah, all praises to Allah for the strengths and His blessing for me to undertake the responsibility as the chair of IEEE Malaysia Section for 2015. A huge gratitude to all members that have nominated and elected me is also in order and I am very grateful for the support.
2014 was a great year for us since IEEE Malaysia was chosen as the host for IEEE Region 10 Technical Symposium 2014 (TENSYMP). With support from our member volunteers this conference was successfully organized from 14th – 16th April 2014.
An increase in the number of members was also observed that indicated positive development in our effort to attract electrical engineering professionals to IEEE especially in the number of senior member which increased from 247 in 2013 to 291 in 2014 (17.8% growth).
For 2015, our main aim is to reduce the gap between academics and industry by creating more collaboration opportunities between these entities. In addition, IEEE Malaysia Section together with technical chapters, student branches and affinity groups have planned more activities, which will involve students and general members as a whole. We would also include new initiatives in membership development to attract new members and retain existing members.
We are looking for more volunteers and encourage members to be active in your technical chapters. If you would like to volunteer or share your experiences with our members, feel free to communicate with me or with the executive committee members and we will try to facilitate as best as possible.
