“Process Mining in Action” Workshop

The IEEE Malaysia CNAG in collaboration with UniKL MIIT and La Rochelle University, is organizing a series of three workshops on “Process Mining in Action”, delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ronan Champagnat and Marwa Trabelsi-Hamdi (both from L3i Research Lab, La Rochelle University, France) and Mohamad Hasbullah Abu Bakar (from Universiti Kuala Lumpur MIIT).  The workshops will cover the fundamentals of process mining as a new research area in Malaysia, process mining tools and techniques using ProM Tools, and a case study of process mining technique using Fluxicon Disco.

Fundamentals of Process Mining

By Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ronan Champagnat

After an introduction on Business Processes and Data Mining, R. Champagnat will present the Process Mining techniques.  This starts with introducing the workflow of Process Mining: Data Extraction and Transformation (XES Standard); Process Discovery; and Conformance Checking.  The main algorithms for Process Mining are introduced and their principles explained.  Some metrics are discussed to determine the quality of a discovered model.  The talk ends by a set of use cases of Process Mining analysis.

 

Process Mining Tools

After a short introduction of Process Mining, M. Trabelsi-Hamdi will present an overview of main commercial and open source tools for Process Mining.  ProM, academic tool, is presented in detail: how to use it for Process Mining; presentation of a set of plugins and how to update ProM’s plugins.  A plugin creation is explained.  It ends by a presentation of another open source tool: PM4PY (Python Library).

 

Fluxicon Disco

This session focuses on the use case of using process mining in understanding Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) behaviour in online learning environment.  The explanation is more on learning process of using Fluxicon Disco as a process mining tool. This talk also discusses the journey of using process mining.
