Free Technical Talk on Examples of Signal Processing Methods for the Analysis of Electrocardiographic Data by Prof. Olivier Meste

Universiti Kuala Lumpur, British Malaysian Institute is organizing a public seminar by Prof. Olivier Meste, Université Côte d’Azur and Head of I3S Laboratory in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Details are as follow:

Date: 26th March 2019 (Tuesday)

Time: 1.30 PM – 2.30PM

Venue: TTL 1, Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute, Gombak

Title: “Examples of Signal Processing Methods for the Analysis of Electrocardiographic Data”

ABSTRACT

In this talk, the comprehensive genesis of the Electrocardiograms will be recalled together with the description of typical arrhythmias (atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation). This reminder will help to understand why the spatio-temporal behavior of the cardiac electrical wavefront brings information on the pathologies. It will be shown how these spatio-temporal characteristics can be assessed through the use of vectorcardiographic loops and the recurrence analysis of multi-leads, up to 184, electrocardiographic systems. Furthermore, the main objective of this study being classification, machine learning techniques will be considered.

BIOGRAPHY

Pr. Olivier Meste is currently a Full Professor at the Université Côte d’Azur and the Head of the Laboratory of Informatics, Signals and Systems (I3S), in Sophia Antipolis, France. The laboratory works on signal and image processing techniques, computations and systems modeling. On the national level, he is a member of the steering committee of the ICT-Health research group (GDR STIC-Santé) where he leads the thematic « Signal and Image for health». He was a former member of the Bio Imaging and Signal Processing technical committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. Currently, his research interests include digital processing, time-frequency representations, and modeling of biological and bioelectrical signals and systems, including ECG, EMG, and EEG as well as machine learning methods for practical applications. He serves as associate editor for various conferences (EMBC, CinC, etc.) and has organized several international seminars, the most recent being the international conference Computing in Cardiology in 2015, held in Nice, France.
