Modern cities and municipalities are confronted with and increasing need for real-time response and advanced measures to effectively control threats and challenges, and provide residents with well being and a quality of life.
Risk based approach and municipal services are becoming more technologically based offering opportunities that answer infrastructure needs for smart connectivity & operations, mitigating risks, and improving performance to keep an entire city safe.
This session will address the safe city concept focuses on risk management approach and preparedness – developing capabilities sensing & surveillance, intelligent software and services, high-speed communications networks to harmonizing multi-source systems, and AI/data analytics that will contribute in lowering risks and treats.
The talk will discuss collaborative technologies such as IoT/GIS, 5G, Virtualization that will transform a city to a scalable and sustainable Smart and Safe City and improving the overall well being of its citizens. Several examples and benefits will be highlighted followed an outline for successful implementation, deployment and adoption.
Fawzi is a visionary, thought leader, author, entrepreneur and contributor in advancing adoption of technology in serving humanity. Fawzi spent over 35 years in industry and held various executive and leadership positions in the areas of communications and networking spanning global service provider, equipment systems and semiconductor in US and Canada. Core competencies include strategic planning, product management, solution development, marketing and business development.
Fawzi was a principle architect and championed the definition, development and deployment of a multi-million dollars integrated TMN-based telecom real-time alert system of network traffic overflow conditions and facilities failure for Teleglobe Canada. He was a senior product manager with Nortel Networks for enterprise broadband edge and carrier network core product releases. Fawzi, also served as the Director of Strategic Marketing with Motorola/Freescale for a $1 billion SoC networking & Communications product line in Austin, Texas.
Fawzi is passionate about technology automation and has founded TelNet Management Consulting Inc. in 2009 offering professional and educational services in the areas of technology positioning, deployment of use cases and smart solution across multiple vertical markets from sensing to AI/Analytics and empowered by collaborative IoT Technologies, 5G and virtualization for scalability, security and reliability.
In collaboration with other consortiums, Fawzi offered consulting services and proposals for risk-based GIS/IoT/LTE in the area of public safety to Interior ministry of Ghana and Togo and Business KPI-based Improvement Strategy and 5-Year Roadmap for 38 departments of the ministry of Environment & Water at UAE. Fawzi gave IoT workshops in Africa (Uganda and Kenya) and as a distinguished lecturer he delivered various talks on IoT, 5G, Virtualization to many countries in US, Canada, Europe and Africa.
Fawzi organized international technical sessions, and conferences on advancement of technology, and solutions. He has been a distinguished lecturer and a keynote speaker at several domestic and international conferences. Fawzi has several publications and co-authored a book on the subject of future IoT “Collaborative Internet of Things for Future Smart Connected Life and Business“ published by Wiley, June 2015 that was selected as textbook by University of Tulsa in the fall of 2016.
Fawzi is active in international forums and standards activities with ITU, ITRS and IEEE. Fawzi is a senior member of IEEE and is currently a Distinguished Lecturer for IEEE Communications and Computer Societies. He is the vice chair for IEEE ComSoc North America Board, Co-founder of Intelligent Health Association IoT for Healthcare consortium, and member of Austin Smart City Consortium. Fawzi is founding chair, IEEE Central Texas EMBS chapter in Austin. He is currently the chair of IEEE Computer Society, ComSoc/Signal Processing Austin chapters, and IEEE Central Texas section conference chair. Fawzi was a recipient of Freescale CEO Diamond Chip Award in 2008, IEEE Region 5 Outstanding member service award for 2013, 2014 and 2015. He also, in 2015 and 2017 received IEEE Communications Society Chapter Achievement award in North America and Chapter of the Year award globally across 212 chapters.
Fawzi holds a Bachelor of Science with honors and distinction from Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Masters in Computer Science from University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, and Executive MBA from Queens University, ON, Canada.
