Ensuring security is an essential task for wireless communications systems. Since signals emitted from antennas are propagated through the air, any receivers that are near to the transmitter can eavesdrop on the transmitted signals with sufficient power. Such signals are under threat of being demodulated by malicious eavesdroppers. Against this, physical layer security has emerged as an effective approach to avoid being eavesdropped on because it can realize secure communication without using any secret keys. In this talk, Prof Takahiko Saba will present his recent research results about physical layer security, especially about artificial noise and artificial fading.

Speaker’s Biography

Takahiko Saba received his Ph.D degree in electrical engineering from Keio University, Japan in 1997. From 1997 to 1998, he was with Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology as a Research Assistant. From 1998, he is with Dept. of Computer Science, Chiba Institute of Technology. He is currently a Dean and Professor at Graduate School of Information and Computer Science, Chiba Institute of Technology. He is also currently serving as TPC Chair of IEEE Tokyo section, and serving as the Editor-in-Chief of IEICE transactions on Communications [Japanese Edition].
