 Abstract:

In this presentation, I will discuss the role of Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies to enable applications that involve in interacting with a massive number of devices and as well as various devices supporting mission critical tasks. These applications impose a large range of requirements in M2M communications architecture and protocols. I will cover a) suitable architectures, b) enabling technologies, c) protocols, and d) various standards activities that can drive M2M/IoT to the next level to enable massive number of connected devices and support mission communications in the future.

 Biography:

Rath Vannithamby received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in EE from the University of Toronto. He leads a team responsible for 5G research in Intel Labs. Previously, he was a researcher at Ericsson. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. He is an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2014-2015. He has published over 50 scientific articles and has over 120 patents granted/pending.
