Chair’s Message for 2014

Chair Message

First and foremost, I would like to convey my gratitude to Allah for giving me the guidance and strength to carry out the duties entrusted upon me.  Secondly, I would like to thank all members that have nominated and elected me again for the second term as the Chair of IEEE Malaysia Section. Your supports and faith that I am able to do the job are indeed the morale booster for me to work even harder.

IEEE Malaysia Section had a good year in 2013 with many activities executed successfully.  For 2014 onwards, IEEE Malaysia Section together with technical chapters, student branches and affinity groups has in the pipeline many more activities that will involve the students and general member as a whole.   In tandem with the Malaysia Transformation Programme, many more international conferences, workshops, tutorials, technical talks will be organized for the benefits of members and non-members to enhanced and enrich the research activities in Malaysia.

IEEE Region 10 has given the honour to IEEE Malaysia Section in organising the 2014 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP) which is the sister conference to the more renowned IEEE TENCON.  The 2014 IEEE TENSYMP will be held on 14-16 April 2014, in Kuala Lumpur.  We are also honoured to be chosen as the host for the IEEE R10 Annual Meeting in Kuching from 1-2 March 2014.  We are glad to play a contributory role in conjunction with the 2014 Visit Malaysia Year.

I would like to encourage all members to apply for the available grants provided by IEEE and IEEE Region 10.  From IEEE Region 10, the available matching grants are R10 Educational Activities Grant, R10 DLP and Technical Seminar Support Fund, R10 Humanitarian Technology Activities Support Fund, and R10 Social Activities. From IEEE, there are IEEE EPICS and IEEE Sight matching one-year grants to help the underserved community.  All information is available in the Malaysia Section IEEE R10 and IEEE websites.

Lastly, I would like to call upon all members to become volunteers and be active in your respective chapters, affinity groups and student branches by embarking on new projects and activities that are in line with the IEEE mission and vision.
