Centre for Intelligent Signal and Imaging Research (CISIR) of Universiti Teknologi Petronas is pleased to announce the Short Course on “Matrix Computation: Fundamental Theory and its Applications in Signal Processing” to be held 29 June, 2013 at UTM Razak School of Engineering and Advance Technology, Jalan Semarak, 54100, Kuala Lumpur. This short course is co-organised by IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter. This short course is targeted to Researchers and postgraduate students in computing, physical science and engineering, Industrial researcher.
The course will cover introductory notes on fundamental and theory of matrix applications. The course will cover the basic of matrix computation techniques and applications to signal processing applications using computing techniques. Interesting topics will be covered: Gauss-Seidal, Chelosky, LU Factorization and QR factorization. The matrix computation for Least Square estimates and its adaptation to system identification and it various models structure will also be covered. The course will be supplement with introduction to Scilab functional programming with interesting example and exercises.

Associate Professor Dr Vijanth S Asirvadam
|Dr. Vijanth S. Asirvadam is from an old mining city of Malaysia called Ipoh. He studied at University of Putra, Malaysia in Bachelor Science(Hon) majoring in Statistics and graduated in April 1997 before leaving to Queen’s University Belfast to do his Masters where he received his Master’s Science in Engineering Computation with a Distinction. He later joined the Intelligent Systems and Control Research Group at Queen’s University Belfast in November 1999 where he completed his Doctorate (Ph.D.) researching into Online and Constructive Neural Learning methods. He took previous employments as a System Engineer and later as a Lecturer at the Multimedia University Malaysia. He was also a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Engineering and Computer Technology, AIMST University. Since November 2006, he served as a Senior Lecturer and later as Associate Professor at the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. His research interest in theory includes linear and nonlinear system identification and model validation. On application side he research into computing techniques in signal, image and video processing. Dr Vijanth is member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) and also a member of Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) . He has over 100 publications in proceedings and journals in the field of computational intelligence, control, signal and image processing. He is a member of IEEE for signal processing and control systems chapters. He is currently serving as secretary of IEEE signal processing for Malaysia Chapter.|
