The IEEE Malaysia Section is the local entity of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Established on 28 July 1985 as part of IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific), it began with just 13 members from industry and academia.

Today, it has grown into a vibrant non-profit professional body with approximately 3,100 active members as of 2024.The section operates across Malaysia with three subsections (Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Sarawak), around 26 technical chapters, two council chapters, three affinity groups (including Young Professionals and Women in Engineering), and over 25 student branches.

It fosters collaboration between academia and industry while supporting professional development.Key activities include organizing and sponsoring international conferences, workshops, seminars, and student competitions such as final-year project showcases and IEEE Xtreme. The section also promotes Continuous Professional Development (CPD) recognized by the Board of Engineers Malaysia and engages in humanitarian initiatives.

Through newsletters, awards programs, and its annual general meeting, it recognizes excellence and keeps members connected.As a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, the IEEE Malaysia Section continues to nurture engineering talent and contribute significantly to Malaysia’s technological advancement and professional community.
